This felt like a breakthrough in terms of finding my mug carving voice in my still-early pottery career. I have been perfecting my Starry Night Mugs that have become a staple in my ceramic repertoire and homage to one of my favorite paintings: Vincent Van Gogh's 'The Starry Night.' After a trip to Jackson Hole to see the Tetons early this year, I've been forever changed by a landscape I instantly fell in love with. I have been practicing carving that mountain range on several other mugs this year, but this finally felt so right. This mug will serve as a basis for many more iterations of it to come!
The top half of the mug is fully glazed while the Teton's remain coated in only underglaze which provides a differentiation in tone and texture, but it remains 100% food safe!
