I’ve done a bit of research into if this lone black bird perched in the tree affectionately named after myself in the yard of my childhood home is a crow or a raven. I’ve determined it’s a crow, and usually I get stuck on naming my works when I’ve wrapped up the carving and printing portion of the artistic process.

I looked into the symbolism of finding yourself in the presence of a single crow, and my favorite interpretation happened to relay it as a good sign-coming to indicate freedom, impending change, or personal growth. With the crow’s gaze directed towards the right, it felt even more in line with looking forward towards hopefully a brighter future. One that continues to offer moments of peace, encouragement to those that wish to change the world around them for the greater good, and a reminder that whatever phase of life we find ourselves in there will be so many more versions of ourselves we have yet to meet just ahead.

‘Season of Change’ felt like an appropriate name that can serve as your own reminder to continue seeking out the good, the brightest stars in the darkest skies, and to keep pushing yourself to be kind to yourself and others. We all deserve some grace right now. ‘Season of Change’ is a woodcut that has been printed in an edition of 50. I hope you consider one for your home!
